A Word on Recruiting

*I came face to face with this issue the other day, at my own front door no less! What irritated me the most was that this particular “group” had no interest in hearing what I had to say.

Every spiritual path, no matter how we may feel about it personally, contains a valid system of beliefs and practices that people live their lives by.

Who are we, as Witches and Pagans, to step in and question that faith especially when we’ve fought so long for acceptance ourselves?

However, the line between recruiting and sharing information is so fine, that it’s easy to find yourself on the edge of it now and then.  With the amount of Witchcraft and Pagan themed merchandise and books available these days, it’s no wonder that many anti-pagan groups feel that we recruit “silently”.  The main difference here is that Witches and Pagans, partially in thanks to such groups, have had to remain relatively under wraps for such a long time, and now that we’re able to be more open about our own religion, information is everywhere.

Just keep this in mind: be happy that you’ve found a spiritual path that suits you, and never be afraid to learn and share information with others who are interested…never try to convince someone that your personal beliefs are in any way more valid than others. However, be prepared for the times that others may not even want to hear what you have to say, even if you are the only one making sense at the time.  Sometimes having an open mind means knowing when not to say a word.

Yours in Love and Light,
Kia

Tis the witching hour of night,
Or bed is the moon and bright,
And the stars they glisten, glisten,
Seeming with bright eyes to listen
For what listen they?

John Keats (1795 - 1821)
